Religion and Ethics
Special Religious Education, previously known as 'Scripture', is part of the curriculum in government schools. Representatives of approved religious groups have an opportunity to provide SRE in every government school in NSW. The teachers who provide SRE, and the materials they use, have been authorised by their religious group, not by the school. More information about these providers and their curriculum can be found to the right.
At Macarthur Girls High School, SRE classes occur each Thursday morning during PRIDE time (9.05-9.30am). Students who choose to not attend SRE will be supervised in a classroom as they undertake alternative, meaningful activities.
Each year, students will continue the same SRE arrangement as the previous year unless a parent/carer notifies the school in writing that they wish to change their decision.
Currently there is no provision for Special Ethics Education (SEE) in secondary schools.
